Tangy Watermelon Juice

The lycopene in watermelon is especially important for our cardiovascular health and is now being recognized as an important factor in promoting bone health. Consuming large amounts of watermelon has also been correlated with improved cardiovascular function because it improves blood flow via vasodilation (relaxation of blood pressure). Dietary lycopene (from foods like watermelon or tomatoes) reduces oxidative stress which normally reduces the activity of osteoblasts and osteoclasts (the two major bone cells involved in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis) – this means stronger bones for those consuming lycopene-rich foods. Watermelon is also rich in potassium which helps to retain calcium in your body, resulting in stronger bones and joints. The citrulline in watermelon has been shown to reduce the accumulation of fat in our fat cells.Watermelon is rich in phenolic compounds like flavonoids, carotenoids, and triterpenoids. The carotenoid lycopene in watermelon is particularly beneficial in reducing inflammation and neutralizing free radicals. The tripterpenoid cucurbitacin E is also present in watermelon, which provides anti-inflammatory support by blocking activity of cyclo-oxygenase enzymes which normally lead to increased inflammatory support. Make sure you pick ripe watermelons, because they contain higher amounts of these beneficial phenolic compounds.
Watermelon is a wonderful source of beta-carotene (that rich red hue of watermelon = beta carotene) which is converted in the body to vitamin A. It helps produce the pigments in the retina of the eye and protects against age-related mascular degeneration as well as prevents night blindness. Vitamin A also maintains healthy skin, teeth, skeletal and soft tissue, and mucus membranes.

To make morning healthy delicious today I make this awesome Coffee Banana Smoothie. Some think bananas are just for monkeys but hopefully not so give it a thought reading the benefits and then the recipe. I am sure you will never say no to it.Banana is loaded with goodness and it very good fruit to start the morning with.Banana have high level of tryptophan which help to overcome depression and is converted into serotonin....the happy - mood brain transmitter. It also helps against muscle cramps during work out and night cramps.Banana helps to build strong bones and reduce swelling, protects against type II diabetes, aid weight loss, strengthen nervous system, and help with the production of white blood cells, all due to high level of vitamin B6. Strengthen your blood and relieve anemia with the added iron.Coffee too have some health benefit. Though many will say that coffee loaded with caffeine is not at all good but recent study shows that Caffeine's primary mechanism in the brain is blocking the effects of an inhibitory neurotransmitter called Adenosine. By blocking the inhibitory effects of Adenosine, caffeine actually increases neuronal firing in the brain and the release of other neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine. Caffeine can improve mood, reaction time, memory, vigilance and general cognitive function. Coffee contains a decent amount of several vitamins and minerals. It is also the biggest source of antioxidants in the modern diet. So when you will have coffee banana smoothie in the morning it is obvious it will give you a kick start. But it also true that I am not recommending the drink all days but once in a week you can relish this healthy luxury.

Iced tea is basically is from of cold tea served in a glass with ice. Iced tea is a very refreshing beverage especially during summer. It is a very healthy alternative to those sugar packed canned sodas. This is one of the most beloved package drinks and you get both the sweetened version and the unsweetened. The best part of iced tea is you can mix it with flavored syrup of your choice and just make an awesome drink that suits your taste and mood. Few flavors that are well paired with iced tea are lemon, peace, raspberry, lime, passion fruit and cherry. Not only different fruity flavors are added to make this tea delicious but many infused different herbs to make it healthier. Some people call this “sun tea” may be because of its bright color. I think you will get iced tea in almost every part of the world. In Austria you will get heavily sweetened iced tea commonly known as Eistee and in Italy you will get peach and lemon flavored iced tea, but if you are in Switzerland you will get herbal tea with peppermint flavor. Lemon flavor ice tea is most common so today we are sharing how to make lemon flavored iced tea and I am sure you will enjoy this in a warm day.

Iced Tea

Ingredients
  • 2 tall glass of water
  • 1/2 tsp tea powder
  • 6 to 8 ice cube
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 4 very thin slice of lemon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sugar or to taste
  • 5 to 6 fresh mint leaves
Cooking Directions
  1. Boil two glass of water then add ½ tsp of tea powder (for this you can use traditional black tea or green tea) add sugar and let it boil for 2 minutes. Then strain the tea with a tea strainer. Add lemon juice to it. Mix well. Sweetness is a matter of taste but sometimes the tartness of lemon demands bit more sugar so adjust according to your taste. Now cool it and then put it in a refrigerator until completely chilled before serving. Now take a serving mug filled it with ice cubes, lemon wedges and then fills the glass with chilled iced tea. Top the iced tea with few fresh mint leaves.
